I want my CNN!

I admit it, I used to watch Real World and Road Rules, and the occasional Real World/Road Rules Challenge. There were about 5 seasons or so where I was a steady watcher. I am talking about when I was in my late 30s. I have not watched the shows (not steady at least) for the last couple of years. It was the Las Vegas season that kind of ended it for me. It felt like it was over the top.

I must have matured. No more reality TV for me. I am past that. Then, I heard something after the election that made me think. That kind of, "what are we going to talk about now" type of statement. Is politics my new brand of reality tv? I think that it may be the case. They both generate the same type of feelings: I wonder what will happen next? Will my team win? I am bored with them, we need new characters.

Hey, you have to admit it, some of the plot lines are very similar. Take these reality tv examples (see below). There is not one that could not also relate to a situation in politics:
  • Guy and girl have been together for a long time. Guy cheats on girl, but tells girl and entire house that he did not cheat. Eventually, the recorded evidence is revealed and guy has to admit that he did cheat.
  • Cast members try to get guy kicked out of house, after he displays inappropriate and abusive behavior.
  • Two cast members form a secret alliance, where they benefit, despite the consequences to the others in their team.
  • Gay cast member decides to come out and tell the rest of the group that he/she is gay. Many in the house are OK with that, while others feel uncomfortable due to their religious values.
  • Black male cast member has to lay low and not get into heated arguments, for fear that he may be viewed as the "angry black man."

I could go on and on, but I won't. I will leave with two closing videos that support my claim (see below).
