Alex P. Keaton's kid would be voting for Obama.

Life seems to come in waves. Sometimes the waves are small and barely visible. Other times the waves seem very rough and dramatic. The wave that we are experiencing now seems to be one of those more dramatic kind of waves. As it is explained, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction (I did not say that first, it was Newton). The likelihood that Barack Obama will be elected the next President of the United States seems like the "reaction" to having eight years of George W. Bush in office.

Now, in regard to my blog title. You remember Alex Keaton. He was the character that Michael J. Fox portrayed in the 80s series, Family Ties. Alex was the republican, Reagan-loving son of 60s generation, liberal parents. At the series end, Alex graduated from college and left home to pursue a career on Wall Street. I wonder if he would still have a job now?

Well, to make a long story short - and since I tend to compare "real life" to television and movies - if Alex had a child, I bet that offspring would be voting for Obama. He or she would be part of this wave that is in reaction to the George W. Bush and Iraq War era, just like Alex was in the wave in reaction to the Kennedy era of his parents' generation. Now, I am in no way saying that Obama being elected is solely connected to a Jungian pull, and has nothing to do with Obama himself. Believe me, if another democrat were running, we may have been looking at quite different and depressing polls. Obama understood this need for "change" and ran with it (no pun intended).

After seeing Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention, I (along with millions of others, I am sure) had the gut feeling that he would someday be President of the United States (see video below). Actually, I remember thinking, "why is Kerry running when we could have had this guy?" But, I do believe that things happen for a reason and at the right time. I also pray and hope that this "wave" will come and carry Obama straight into the White House.
