Just wait til your father gets home....
I was just listening to an interview today of Obama by Matt Lauer (see above). Obama pointed out McCain's flip-flopping on the AIG bailout - saying that he supported it one day and then disagreed with it the next.
Matt Lauer responded saying, "in an interview with Meredith Vieira, Joe Biden, your running mate was asked the exact same question, 'should the federal government bailout AIG?' And he said, 'No, the federal government should not bailout AIG.'" "And I think that in that situation," Obama said, "I think Joe should have waited as well."
It should be noted that a similar situation occurred when Biden was recently interviewed by Katie Couric (see below). Biden stated that he thought that the Obama ad in which McCain's lack of computer knowledge was mocked, was "terrible."
These interviews got me thinking, that being running mates is similar to being parents. It is OK to disagree, but "not in front of the kids." In front of the kids, you always take a united front. I wonder if the unified front between President and Vice President is as important, or maybe even more important, than the actual content of the message. In this respect, I bet that McCain and Palin have the upper hand. You know that Palin is not going to come out disagreeing with McCain on any big issue. Basically, all of her comments thus far have been mainly scripted.
When asked about his decision making in terms of picking a running mate, Obama said that, "the third criteria for me, I think, was independence. I want somebody who is going to be able to challenge my thinking and not simply be a yes-person when it comes to policy-making." Obama always said that he wanted a VP who would tell him what they really thought - even if they disagreed with him. The only thing is - Biden is telling the press/media before he tells Obama.
