Sometimes blog posts are like relationships - the timing has to be right. That is the way the I felt about today's blog topic. A few weeks ago when the Blagojevich scandal broke and some reports said that Rahm Emanuel had actually been the leak for the story, I suddenly was reminded of Robert Kennedy. Something about Emanuel's style made me think that he could be Obama's version of Robert Kennedy. You know, the suave, calm Obama/John F. Kennedy with the shadow of the little bulldog never far behind (Rahm Emanuel/Robert Kennedy). Almost like a version of good cop/bad cop. Someone has to play the "bad guy" - even in real life.
There is a new book coming out that is based on the idea that John F. Kennedy's assassination was set up by a member of organized crime. The author explains that a mobster actually admitted it to the FBI in 1985. I am including a video clip about the book from CNN below:
I know, the conspiracy theories about the JFK assassination have been numerous. I have to admit it, Oliver Stone's JFK is one of my favorite movies. Gore Vidal wrote in his recent autobiography, that he believed that Robert Kennedy was exceedingly guilty about his brother's assassination, because RFK knew that it was mob related. RFK had gone after organized crime very heavily during the time of his brother's presidency. It always seemed ironic, in that many say that JFK's father got help from organized crime members to get his son into office.
When the stories reported that Rahm Emanuel had leaked the Blagojevich scandal, it made me think of RFK. Perhaps the Blagojevich story was released instead of bigger fish ending up in the frying pan. It always did seem too easy, didn't it? All the information that was recorded practically came gift wrapped for the Attorney General's office. Almost like a "let's put this out there so that the real dirt doesn't get exposed."
I think I have been watching too many movies...
