Just a couple of briefs notes today. Look at the photo above. President Elect Obama arrived in Washington, DC last night and met with Nancy Pelosi this morning. Is it just me, or when standing with Obama, does Pelosi always look like a proud mother at her son's Bar Mitzvah? I just can't get that interpretation out of my head when seeing them together. I am not sure if she is "kvelling" at Obama's accomplishment, or at her own and Howard Dean's. I know she is proud of somebody.
Also, Bill Richardson withdrew his nomination as Commerce Secretary during the weekend. He cited a "pay to play" investigation that might tie up his confirmation (lots of that going around). Below is the video from early in December in which Obama announces his nomination (see below). Some are saying that the Obama team goofed in not doing a thorough vetting. I tend to think that they never expected the nomination to actually "stick." The nomination always felt forced. There was frequent talk that Richardson had his eye set on the Secretary of State spot now held in waiting by Hillary Clinton. The Obama transition team was dealing with criticism from Hispanic supporters, who were upset that none of the big Cabinet slots were going to Hispanics. Now, at least they can say that they made the nomination, even if it didn't pan out.
