Somehow it seems so fitting that the current President of the United States and his family be leaving the White House around the time of the Season of Christmas. Christmas is a holiday filled with wonderment, childlike fantasy, and the belief that god's word will lead you down the right path. It often felt to me that President Bush based his executive decisions on these same foundations. Those concepts work well for a holiday, but for a government - not so much. Condoleeza Rice was on last Sunday's edition of Meet the Press, and expressed her belief that eventually, history will prove that President Bush made good decisions. She explained that President Bush always asked that his cabinet remain optimistic, and look at the positives of situations. In an interview, Laura Bush described how she always planned that the theme for her last Christmas at the White House be - "A Red, White, and Blue Christmas." And yes, that is this year's focus. Here is a little excerpt from the White House homepage:
This year’s theme celebrates the patriotic spirit that unites us as Americans. During this hopeful season we are reminded of the blessings of freedom we enjoy, and we renew our sense of what is important in our lives. Family and friends gather to share old traditions and create new ones. Strangers exchange smiles and tidings of good cheer. Children happily sing along to the songs of the holidays and help bake holiday treats for their loved ones.
Here is a holiday video presented by the Bush's family dog - Barney:
Whew - I don't know about you, but I am pretty glad that "Obama is coming to town."
