Win one for who?

Okay, I am not a big sports fan and have not mentioned sports in any of my prior blog posts. But, I grew up in Philadelphia and now live "just outside of Philadelphia," and feel that in this case, the timing is appropriate. Tonight the Philadelphia Phillies have the chance to win game their 4th game against the Tampa Bay Rays and clinch the 2008 World Series. It would be amazing for Philadelphia, whose team members have been known to choke more than a group of participants at a Heimlich's Maneuver Convention. If the Phillies lose tonight, they would have to head back to Florida for Game 6.

The city of Philadelphia definitely needs a boost. But, more importantly, there is one person whom I feel really needs this big Philly win. Taking a lead from the famous 1940 biographical movie, Knute Rockne All American, "win one for the gipper." The film tells the story of of Knute Rockne, one of the most famous football coaches at Notre Dame. Ronald Reagan actually had the role of George "The Gipper" Gipp and uttered the now famous line (see video below). But, in this case, win one for the "Nutter." Of course, I am referring to Mayor Michael Nutter, who is one of the most decent politicians that Philadelphia has seen for a long time. Mayor Nutter has inherited a city that is under much distress, and has done much to try to guide the city into a less violent and more ethical existence. So, Phillies - please win for not just the people of Philadelphia - but win one for "the Nutter." He could use a nice parade.
