No Room at the Inn

Just a short entry this weekend. I could not resist noting a bit of irony. After all of McCain's claims this election season that Barack Obama was portraying himself as some sort of Messiah - remember The One - the republicans finally got their revenge. Here is a little reminder of one of their ads (see video below):

How did the conservatives get their revenge, you ask? In the oldest possible way - in biblical style.  Apparently, the White House turned down Barack Obama's request to move into the Blair House (photo above) early in January 2009 so that his daughters would be in Washington, DC to start school on January 5th. There was just no room at the inn - or house I guess.  Here is a little snippet from the New York Times story:

The Obamas were told that Blair House, where incoming presidents usually stay in the five days before Inauguration Day, is booked in early January, a spokesperson to the Obama transition said. “We explored the idea so that the girls could start school on schedule,’ the spokesperson said. “But, there were previously scheduled events and guests that couldn't’t be displaced.” It remained unclear who on Bushes guest list outranked the incoming President. “It’s not a public schedule,” said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush, in refusing to disclose who was staying at Blair House. “It’s not a question of outranking the Obamas. Blair House will be available to them on January 15."

Well, I guess you make your swipes where and when you can.
